What to expect with our palliative care service

Continuity of care

Rather than receiving care from whoever is available at the time, at Tiggo Care, we’ll assign the same small team of two or three carers to your loved one, who’ll understand their preferences, know their routine and take care of their needs. They’ll form a bond with your loved one, which will help to boost their well-being and overall quality of life.

Stay at home

Hospitals are often chaotic and confusing environments, which can add to the anxiety and overwhelm that many patients and their families feel. Our end-of-life care team will support and care for your loved one in their own home, surrounded by the things they love and all that is familiar to them so that they spend their final weeks and months in a place where they feel safe, comfortable and at ease.

Round the clock care

As your loved one’s health starts to deteriorate, rest assured our end-of-life carers will be on hand to notice and respond to changes in their condition, however subtle. They’ll react quickly and calmly to any emergency and ensure that you are notified straight away.

Flexible visiting times

With your loved one receiving care at home, should you wish to drop in and see how they are, you won’t be constrained by strict visiting times. Unlike hospitals, you’ll be able to visit your loved one whenever you would like and for as long as you would like.

Headshot of a care assistant

“Where possible I opt to work with palliative care patients because I feel it is where I can have the greatest impact on a patient and their families. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work and can be emotionally draining but I find it hugely rewarding to know that I’m making someone feel more comfortable during their final days, whether that’s supporting them with pain management or providing a compassionate listening ear."

More reasons to choose Tiggo Care

Our Care packages are bespoke

At Tiggo Care we understand how precious your loved one is to you and how unique they are. We also appreciate how overwhelming it can be to research and source the most suitable type of care.

We fundamentally believe that there is no ‘one size fits all’ care package and like to work with you and your loved one to understand your specific requirements. We’ll then create a tailored care package and match your relative with their ideal carer.

We're fully regulated

Unlike some other care providers, we are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission. This means we are regularly inspected, rated and audited to ensure we are a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led organisation, committed to delivering the best possible care.

We’re also proud members of the Homecare Association, the U.K’s membership body for home care providers, which holds organisations to a high set of standards and requests them to abide by a strict code of practice

Our carers are fully vetted & trained

At Tiggo Care, all of our carers undergo a rigorous recruitment and induction process. They are fully vetted and background checked, with all references followed up. Our carers undertake their training on the best eLearning system currently available within the UK care market, ensuring they are well placed to deliver the best possible service. Specialist training courses such as moving and handling, medications and basic life support are also completed by our carers face to face, as we feel these courses are more effective when delivered in person.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is end-of-life care?

End-of-life care is the provision of support and treatment for those approaching the end of their life. It aims to ensure that people who are dying, live as well as possible until they pass away and that when they die, they do so with dignity and respect.

What is palliative care?

Palliative care is provided to those with an incurable illness. It aims to make people as comfortable as possible by managing their pain as well as providing them with psychological, emotional and spiritual support. Although it includes end-of-life care, palliative care can last much longer, sometimes for years.

What to expect with palliative care at home?

Our carers will work with a multi-disciplinary team of palliative care experts to manage your loved one’s pain at home as well as look after their emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being. It’s a holistic form of care, dealing with the whole person rather than just their physical symptoms.

What does palliative care mean for cancer patients?

The main purposes of palliative care for cancer patients are to relieve their pain, improve the quality of their life and where possible prolong their life. As part of this care offer, support and comfort will also be extended to the patient’s family members and friends.

How long can end-of-life care last?

The duration depends on the type and severity of the patient’s condition. It can last a relatively short time, in the case of someone expected to die within a few days, or it could last months. In most cases, end-of-life care lasts between two and eight weeks.
