Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA), also known as Benson’s Syndrome, is a rare and progressive condition that typically begins to manifest in people between the ages of 50 and 65. Unlike other forms of dementia, PCA primarily affects the brain's occipital and parietal lobes, which are responsible for processing visual information.
As a result, people with PCA may struggle with tasks that require spatial awareness, reading, or identifying objects, even though their eyes may be healthy. PCA is often misdiagnosed due to its rarity, with estimates suggesting that only 5% of people with Alzheimer’s have PCA.
